Pre-Stretch Rollers - Consistency Starts Here

The pre-stretch system is one of the most critical wear zones on any stretch wrapper. On the WRT-150, the rollers inside the film carriage are responsible for pulling, stretching, and controlling the film before it ever touches your load. Over hundreds of cycles, these rollers face friction, tension, and constant rotation — all of which slowly wear down the roller surface.

Common signs of pre-stretch roller wear:

  • Film slipping on the rollers
  • Inconsistent stretch percentage
  • Wrapping that appears loose or uneven
  • Increased film breaks

Recommended care:

  • Wipe down roller surfaces regularly to remove dust and film buildup
  • Inspect for glazing, cracking, or visible wear
  • Replace rollers at the first signs of degraded performance

Since the rollers directly affect film tension and wrap quality, keeping them in top shape is essential for both load stability and film cost efficiency.

Carriage Lift System — Chains, Guides, and Smooth Travel

The carriage lift assembly raises and lowers the film carriage during every wrap cycle. It relies on two key components:

  • Lift chains, which carry the weight of the carriage
  • UHMW guide blocks, which allow smooth travel up and down the mast

Over time, chains gradually stretch, and guide blocks slowly wear as they glide against the carriage rails. If ignored, these issues can cause jerky motion, misalignment, or inconsistent film positioning.

What to look for:

  • Slack or inconsistent movement in the lift chains
  • Carriage hesitation or uneven travel
  • Wear grooves forming in the UHMW blocks
  • Excess debris or buildup along the carriage rails

Maintenance steps:

  • Lubricate chains on schedule
  • Clean the mast and carriage path frequently
  • Inspect guide blocks for wear and replace when needed
  • Make sure the carriage remains straight and aligned

A smooth-moving carriage ensures accurate wraps and reduces strain on the rest of the system.

Rotary Arm Drive — Ring Gear, Pinion Gear & Motion Control

The WRT-150’s rotary arm uses a heavy-duty ring gear and pinion gear system to rotate the arm around the load. While this design is known for its strength and long life, it still experiences mechanical wear over time, especially in high-throughput environments.

Signs the rotary drive needs attention:

  • Grinding or unusual noise during rotation
  • Vibration or inconsistent arm speed
  • Metal shavings or excessive grease around the gear housing
  • Visible wear on gear teeth

What to do:

  • Keep the gear area clean and lubricated
  • Inspect the gear teeth regularly
  • Identify misalignment issues early to prevent costly damage
  • Listen for changes in sound — small noises often indicate bigger issues coming

A well-maintained rotary arm keeps your cycle times efficient and your wraps consistent.
